Will 22-year-old sidearm become a new vitality in dinosaur bullpen

NC is sending promising players to Brisbane Bandits to gain experience.

Lim Hyung-won took the mound as a relief pitcher in the seventh inning, trailing 0-3 against the Perth Heat on the 15th. After striking out his first batter, he walked consecutive Tim Connelly and Alex Hall.

He grounded out to the first baseman at a crisis with one out and runners on the first and second bases. He struck out and prevented runners on the second and third bases with two outs.

Lim Hyung-won pitched in nine games in the Australian professional league, recording one win, two holds, one save, and an ERA of 3.48. He lost two of his nine games, and finished seven without losing a point.

He pitched 10 ⅓ innings, allowing two hits, nine walks, 10 strikeouts and four runs. He hardly had any hits, but his ball control is regrettable as evidenced by his large number of walks.

Lim Hyung-won pitched in the first five games and pitched well with a 1.42 ERA with one run. His ERA rose as he allowed three runs against Canberra on the 7th. He has been stabilizing again with no runs in the last two consecutive games.

Lim was selected as NC`s candidate in the second fourth round (31st overall) in the 2020 draft. The only major league record is that he pitched in one game in 2020. On June 14, 2020, he pitched in the ninth inning against Kiwoom, and gave one hit and one run. It was his debut game as a taste.

He completed his mandatory military service early from 2021 to 2022 and returned to the team. Lim, who was discharged from the military service at the end of December 2022, said, “It will take a long time for him to return to action. In the 2023 Futures League, he pitched in four games and posted an ERA of 14.73 (six runs in three ⅔) in September.

Lim Hyung-won has a unique pitching form and is sidearm-style. NC does not have many sidearm pitchers. It will not be easy for Lim to become a first-team player next year, but he will have a chance in the first team if he has a stable control.

Meanwhile, NC`s Han Jae-seung, who plays for Brisbane, pitched well against Perth on Sunday with no hits, one strikeout and no run in one ⅔ inning. Han Jae-seung has one win and four holds with an ERA of 4.66 in nine games.
