‘Come to my team’… Baran heads to Serie A after all
Rafael Varane has decided on a club to spend the twilight of his career. It’s Italian Serie A side Como 1907.
Fabrizio Romano, a journalist familiar with European soccer news, reported on Thursday that “Baran has accepted Como’s offer. The deal is close to being finalized. The project has been approved, but it will take a few days to review the contract. Then there will be medical tests. The key to the deal is Cesc Fabregas,” the report said.
Baran is a defender who has won every trophy a soccer player can win. He has been playing for Real Madrid since 2011, where he and Sergio Ramos have been the backbone of the team, winning three consecutive UEFA Champions League (UCL) titles since the 2015-16 season.
He has been honored not only with his club team, but also with the national team. Varane has been a consistent starter for the French national team since 2014, helping them win the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and the UEFA Nations Cup in 2020-21. The only trophy he hasn’t added to his display case is the European Championship.
Having accomplished so much, Varane decided to take on a new challenge. He moved to Manchester United in the summer of 2021 and played in the Premier League (PL) for the first time. In his first season, Baran was limited to 12 league appearances due to injury, but he emerged as a key part of United’s defense, providing solid defensive performances whenever he appeared.
Injuries prevented him from playing a full season, but he did his part every time he was called upon, especially in his partnership with Lisandro Martinez. His performances helped United win the English Football League Cup (EFL Cup) in 2022-23, their first 메이저사이트 trophy in six years.
Baran did not play at 100% last season due to injury. He played 32 games in all competitions and was fortunate to return from injury late in the season to start the English FA Cup final against Manchester City and help the team win the title. After that game, Baran said goodbye to United.
Como has emerged as a new destination. Como is currently led by Fabregas. Fabregas played the final year of his career with Como in the 2022-23 season and then immediately took over as head coach of Como’s B team. After leading the team as assistant coach last season, Fabregas was named head coach this season.
The club was promoted from Serie B last season and will be playing in Serie A this season. Fabregas quickly looked to strengthen the squad. He signed veteran goalkeepers Pepe Reina and Alberto Moreno as free agents, and Baran is said to have been persuaded by Fabregas to don a Como shirt.
