World No. 1 Iga Cibionte (POL) expressed her frustration at the US Open media day at not being able to get solid information about this season’s final event, the WTA Finals.
The Finals, which sees the top eight players in each year’s rankings split into two groups with the top two from each group advancing to the final stage, has been held in Shenzhen, China, for 10 years from 2019-2028, but the 2021 event was moved to Guadalajara, Mexico, due to the spread of COVID-19.
Last year’s event was also not held in Shenzhen, but in Fort Worth, USA. This was after the WTA canceled all tournaments in China in December 2021 after Peng Shuai (CHN) accused Chinese government officials of sexual assault on social media. However, the WTA announced in September that it would resume touring in China.
According to ‘UBITENNIS’, the tournament outline, including the competition schedule, has not been released for the Finals, which is only about two months away from kicking off. The likely host is rumored to be Saudi Arabia, the host of this year’s ATP NextGen Finals. Saudi Arabia has reportedly offered to host the event and is currently in negotiations.
The lack of a finalized date has frustrated the players scheduled to compete in the WTA Finals. “We’re not involved in 먹튀검증 all the discussions,” said Sibyon Tech, who will be playing in the Finals for the third year in a row. We just have to wait and see what the WTA has to say,” she said.
“It would be nice if it was decided sooner, especially since (last year) in Fort Worth (the WTA) said they would decide (this year’s tournament details) at the beginning of the year. I’m a little upset, but I can’t help it that they’re negotiating.”
