Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do, announced on Dec. 26 that it will participate in the 2023 Annual General Assembly of the World Federation of Olympic Cities, which will be held in Paris, France, from Nov. 27 to Dec. 1. More than 300 officials and sports experts from Olympic host cities around the world, including Seoul and Pyeongchang, will attend the assembly, which will be held in Paris, the host city of the 2024 Summer Olympics. PyeongChang’s seven-member delegation, including officials from the 2018 PyeongChang Memorial Foundation and the PyeongChang Heritage Foundation, will gather success stories of using sports as a city development strategy after the Olympics.
They will also focus their efforts on Pyeongchang’s bid to host the World Association of Olympic Cities Annual General Assembly in 2025.The Pyeongchang delegation, led by Vice Mayor Hwang Sung-hyun, will meet with IOC President Gregory Junod on May 27 to convey Pyeongchang’s intention to host the 2025 IOC Annual General Assembly. “After the 2018 Winter Olympics and next year’s 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games, we hope to invite people from all over the world to Pyeongchang once again,” said Pyeongchang Mayor Shim Jae-guk in a letter to IOC President Junod.
The World Federation of Olympic Cities was founded in 2002 to share the positive impact of the Olympic Games through the exchange of experiences and capacities among the world’s Olympic host and bidding cities. PyeongChang became a full member in October 2009. There are 46 member cities around the world, including Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2023.The host city for the 2025 General Assembly 슬롯 will be decided by the Host Selection Committee in the first half of 2024.
