Austin FC announced that it has hired Manchester City’s top aide Rodolfo Borrell as the sports director of a major league football club.

Borrell, 52, spent nine seasons at Manchester City as the Premier League club’s global technical manager before being named first team head coach under Pep Guardiola in 2016.

Borrell was named assistant manager before last season when Manchester City won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

He joins the MLS team in the third year of the tournament. Austin reached the Western Conference Finals last season but struggled for the first half of the 2023 season. With back-to-back wins, Austin is back in the playoff race.

“He has an incredibly impressive record, rich experience and passion for beautiful games, and we fully believe he is the right person to advance our ambitions and develop the best players, coaches, and staff for the first, second and academy,” said Anthony Freecot, founder and majority shareholder of Austin FC.

Sean Rubio has been working as Austin’s interim sports director since former U.S. national team star Claudio Reina was fired in January after an altercation between U.S. male coach Greg Burhalter and his family. 토토사이트넷

Rubio will oversee roster management as the current senior vice president of player personnel, the club said.
