Its NC Forgetting Defeat Heading Towards the Legend of Fall

Even though there was no ace Eric Peddie, the dinosaur army was strong.

NC Dinos advanced to the playoffs with an undefeated postseason streak.

NC defeated SSG Landers 7-6 in the 3rd game of the 2023 season KBO League semi-playoffs held at Changwon NC Park on the afternoon of the 25th and finished the series with 3 consecutive wins.

With this, NC succeeded in advancing to the playoffs for the first time since 2017 and for the fourth time in total.

In the 2020 season, they ranked first in the regular league and advanced directly to the Korean Series.

Even though NC’s ace Eric Peddy, who dominated the regular league with 20 wins, was unable to play in the postseason game due to injury

NC showed its potential by running a four-game winning streak in fall baseball from the wild card game against the Doosan Bears to the semi-playoffs.

NC allowed a lead for the first time in this series after being hit with a grand slam by SSG’s signature slugger, Choi Jeong, early in the game.

However, Martin, the fourth batter, immediately responded with a come-from-behind 3-pointer, leading the team to victory.

NC’s cannons burst into flames at critical moments throughout the series.

In the first game away to Incheon, pinch hitter Kim Seong-wook hit the final two-run shot in the top of the 8th inning, and in the second game, next-generation home manager Kim Hyeong-jun hit a goal at the end of the game.

And the hero of the day was Martin.

NC faced a crisis as coach Kang In-kwon announced ahead of Game 2 that he would “definitely play in Game 3” but Peddie’s appearance was suddenly canceled and starting pitcher Tanner collapsed after allowing 5 runs in 2 innings.

However, Lee Jae-hak did his part by allowing 1 run in 2⅔ innings until he was replaced after being hit by a batted ball with 2 outs in the 5th inning.

Kim Young-gyu, Ryu Jin-wook, Lim Jeong-ho, and closer Lee Yong-chan, who took the mound, combined for 4 ⅓ scoreless innings and won by 1 run.

They secured their spot in the playoffs.

Unlike the last two games, which developed into a tight pitching battle until the very end of the game, a fierce batting battle took place in the third game.

NC took the early lead by successfully targeting SSG starter Oh Won-seok.

Kwon Hee-dong hit a timely hit with two RBIs in the bottom of the first inning with two outs and runners on second and third base, followed by Seo Ho-cheol’s double to left-center to widen the score to 3-0.

SSG fought back hotly in the top of the second inning.

Heredia chose a walk against Tanner, who was having trouble controlling the ball with the bases loaded and two outs, and Choi Jeong hit a grand slam to immediately turn the game around to 5-3.

However, NC quickly turned the tables again. In the bottom of the second inning, Do Tae-hoon’s RBI single and Martin’s dominant three-run home run exploded, bringing the score back to 7-5.

SSG trailed by 1 run in the top of the 4th inning when Hanyu Island brought home runner Choi Jeong on first base with a double to left-center.

Afterwards, both teams continued to play with a 1-point difference, like a thin ice, without scoring a goal.

NC blocked SSG’s batting line with a strong bullpen.

Kim Young-gyu came on the mound in the 5th inning with 2 outs and pitched 1⅓ innings without allowing a run, while Ryu Jin-wook and Lim Jeong-ho came on the mound in turn and pitched well without allowing a run.

SSG missed a golden opportunity in the top of the 7th inning when pinch hitter Kang Jin-seong hit an outfield fly in the scoring position with 2 outs and 1st and 2nd bases.

Closer Lee Yong-chan, who had been somewhat anxious during the postseason, washed away his concerns and shut out the 9th inning perfectly.

Defending champion’ SSG’s fall baseball season came to a lonely end without a single win.
